Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the MCAMH programme, and without any prejudice to the rules and regulations governing the award of postgraduate degrees of the University of Ibadan, a candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of a third (3rd) class in any scienceor social science course or Higher National Diploma in Laboratory Science, Community Health, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or its equivalent from University of Ibadan (UI) or any other University recognised by the Senate of UI. Graduates who have successfully completed the Post-graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Mental Health can apply.

All candidates must fulfil other basic requirements as stipulated by the Postgraduate School of UI including the postgraduate school English language proficiency test.


Candidates for the MCAMH are required to complete the registration formality within the period stipulated by the Postgraduate School of the University of Ibadan.

Duration and mode of study

This programme is designed to be a full time 18-month programme consisting of 3 semesters and five semesters for a part-time study. 


The MCAMH programme will involve course work, seminars, clinical exposure, fieldwork and a research project. Candidates are required to register for a minimum of 45 units and a maximum of 60 units including a research project. One course unit represents a period of 15 hour lectures, tutorials, seminars or 45 hours of practical exposure.

Candidates will be required to submit a research project using primary or secondary data relevant to their primary place of assignment or discipline under the supervision of relevant falculty members. This involves extensive literature review on the topic of choice, reanalysis of data, discussions and applications of findings. Research project topics will be approved after a presentation at a departmental seminar. The final report will be presented in a project form amd defended in an oral examination.

The MCAMH is a Professional master’s programme. Candidates admitted into the programme are awarded the MCAMH degree if they obtain the required grades as stipulated in the Postgraduate School guidelines.
